Guinea was part of French West Africa in the late 19th century.
Ahmed Sékou Touré was one of the key leaders in Guinea’s struggle for independence and the founding father of independent Guinea.
He played a central role in organizing and leading the resistance against French colonial rule and advocating for independence and became the first president of Guinea, serving from 1958 until his death in 1984.
Guinea celebrates its Independence Day on October 2nd each year. This day commemorates the country’s independence from France, which was achieved on October 2, 1958.
