One volunteer day is not enough if change sought in communities. We believe one volunteer day a month can make a difference. We call it 1st Saturdays- The Official Monthly Volunteer/ Recruitment Day at school sites. Why at school sites? Because, we believe schools are the center for community development. They are located in practically every neighborhood across the country and they possess an inter-generational network, if coordinated, can increase the capacity of the school to manage and operate school based enterprises. These school based enterprises begin with the school garden, followed by a farmers market and eventually a student run grocery store. What do we mean by recruitment? We believe every school should have a functioning Student Government Association, Parent Teacher Association and Alumni Association. Therefore, every 1st Saturday of the month time is dedicated to each of these organizations to share updates in pursuit of these organizations collaborating to become #Familyhood.
